The second meeting of the National Wetland Committee (NWC) was held under the Chair of Hon'ble Mohammad Wakil Musalman, Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation (MFSC) on 26th September 2011. Mr. Keshav Prasad Bhattarai, MFSC & Member Secretary of the NWC welcomed all the NWC members and presented the agendas of the meeting. The agendas included the following: 1.Sharing of the overview and achievements of CSUWN, 2. Presentation of key features of the revised National Wetland Policy (NWP) 2068, 3. Endorsement of revised NWP 2086 and 4. Hosting of an International Wetland Symposium in 2012. Present on the occasion were the following NWC members: Mr. Sushil Ghimire, Secretary, Ministry of Local Development; Mrs. Bindra Hada Bhattarai, Secretary, Ministry of Irrigation; Mr. Khem Sharma Poudel, Joint- Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives; and representatives from NPC and DNPWC Mr. Biju Shrestha, Director, and Fanindra Kharel, Acting DG respectively.

As per the agenda, Mr. Harihar Sigdel, Chief, Planning and Human Resources Division, MFSC and National Project Director, CSUWN made a power point presentation on the overview of the project together with the achievements made by the Project till date. Similarly, Mr. Top B. Khatri, NPM, CSUWN presented the salient features of the revised National Wetland Policy 2068. After discussion and deliberation, the following decisions were made: On agenda 1, the members were happy to learn the progress made by CSUWN. Similarly, on agenda 3, the members agreed to share the revised NWP 2068 amongst the NWC members to solicit comments within a week time. On agenda 4, the members advised to host the symposium by the end of 2012 and advised to do the necessary preparatory work.

At the end, the Chair, thanked all the NWC members for their valuable time and declared the meeting closed.
