Key Achievements
Institutional Technical Capacity and Awareness- Conservation, Education, Participation and Awareness (CEPA) Strategy and Dissemination Framework (2011-2015) prepared for Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), the Ramsar Authority for Nepal. Additionally, other CEPA materials such as wetland posters, wetland resources book, ToT Manual and FAQs book were also published to increase public understanding and awareness of wetlands related issues
- Generation and dissemination of more than 15 wetland related technical knowledge base such as; Alien Invasive Species (AIS) Management Guidelines; Wetlands Inventory, Assessment and Monitoring (WIAM) Tool; Wetlands Indigenous Knowledge (WIK) Document Methodology; Monitoring protocol for indicator species; Ecological Monitoring protocol for Indicator species; Planning Guideline of wetland Management; Resource Use Practices and Plan for KTWR; GLA Catchment Level Management Plan; Economic Evaluation Tool; Training manual for EV tool; and EV tool case studies
- More than 4500 individuals participated in various institutional and capacity development trainings and wetland sensitization programs at systemic level by organizing trainings and knowledge sharing sessions and sensitization programs like orientation, policy dialogue, media visits, exposure visits for different stakeholders at various levels.
- Technical Knowledge base products and CEPA materials were shared at two additional Ramsar sites; Jagdishpur Reservoir, Kapilvastu and Mai Pokhari, Ilam.
- Wetland Watch Group at NEFEJ (Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists) has been formed as a dedicated group of journalists to raise awareness amongst a wide range of audience on wetland issues and concerns through print and audio visual media.
- Five-fold increase in the coverage of issues related to wetlands in National media
- International Wetland Symposium 2012 organized as a knowledge sharing event and concluded with a 9-point ‘Pokhara Declaration’
- An updated checklist of GLA birds prepared and Poster of threatened bird species printed and distributed
- A weekly radio program "Simsar Sandesh" was broadcasted from both project sites through local FM stations and in local dialects such as Maithili in KTWR and Tharu in GLA to reach and generate interest among diverse audience from various ethnic groups. Simsar Sandesh broadcast was stopped in GLA in 2011, but continued in KTWR till the end of 2012.
